The Journey
Merit Valuations was founded by Crystal Hawryluk, a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in the field. Our journey began with a desire to empower owner-managed businesses and individuals facing intricate financial challenges. Crystal's experience as a valuations partner at an international accounting firm provided invaluable insights and inspired her to embark on her entrepreneurial path. Merit Valuations was established on August 1, 2018, initially operating as Hawryluk Valuations Professional Corporation. We proudly embraced the name Merit Valuations Professional Corporation on August 1, 2022.
Meet Crystal Hawryluk
Crystal Hawryluk, a certified CPA, CGA, CBV, and CFE, is the driving force behind Merit Valuations. Her unwavering commitment is to assist owner-managed businesses in navigating the intricate financial aspects of their operations. Whether you require a business valuation or a financial expert report, Crystal's distinctive approach is to demystify complex financial matters, ensuring that clients, regardless of their familiarity with numbers, can fully grasp the intricacies at hand.

With over twenty years of experience, Crystal's expertise spans a wide spectrum. Her specialties include valuations for corporate tax planning, business transactions, including shareholder buyouts, resolving shareholder and partnership disputes, and preparing loss quantification reports for litigation support, with a particular focus on business losses arising from expropriation matters. Her experience encompasses private companies across various industries, extending beyond Alberta to British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
A Trusted Expert Witness
Crystal's credibility extends to her role as a qualified expert witness, recognized by both the Alberta Land Compensation Board (now known as the Alberta Land and Property Rights Tribunal) and the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta (currently known as the Court of King's Bench of Alberta).
Beyond the Numbers
Beyond her professional pursuits, Crystal finds joy in spending quality time with her family, including her husband, daughter, and two beloved Havanese dogs. She's an enthusiastic Oilers fan, enjoys the camaraderie of curling during winter, and loves to travel.
